Obtain and Administer BPD-MS Measures

BPD-MS utilizes item banking and CAT methodology. BPD-MS measures are publicly available free of charge without licensing or royalty fees and are intended for use in research and clinical practice.

BPD-MS offers two types of instruments:

Short Forms

Fixed set of 10 items for one domain. These can be administered electronically or on paper. Each short form requires approximately one to two minutes to administer.

Computer Adaptive Tests (CATs)

Items are dynamically selected for administration from an item bank based upon the respondent's previous answers.

Computer Administration

BPD-MS computer adaptive tests (CATs) require computer administration. The LBP-HRQOL measure, part of the Neuro-QoL measurement system, will be available on the platforms shown below (expected to be available in summer 2023). The AD-HRQOL and LBP-ADL measures are not currently scheduled for addition on these platforms.

Paper Administration

You may administer the measures on paper, or program the short forms into your own electronic data collection platform.

At this time, scoring is available only for the 10-item short forms.

Best Practices in Administration

BPD-MS self-report measures are intended to be completed by the respondent without help from anyone else.
The text and responses of BPD-MS items cannot be altered in any way and still be considered a BPD-MS item. If users modify the items, they cannot refer to these modified items as BPD-MS. There are no data to determine whether or not a modified version would have the same psychometric properties as the original BPD-MS item. If you do choose to modify items, please clearly specify how the items were modified in any publications or other publicly disseminated products.
